Before you can weigh a word of it, [music] you need to know who this woman is because almost nobody does.

She has no verified social media account.

She has given close to no interviews in six decades.

There is not even a confirmed birthday for her in any major outlet.

She is arguably the most important person in Dolly Parton’s entire life.

And in the public record, she is practically a ghost, which is why anything in her voice right now would be the rarest thing to come out of this week.

On Tuesday the 25th of August 2026, Dolly Parton died in Nashville at 80 after what her family called a brief battle with cancer.

Her nephew Brian Siver, the man who ran her security for decades, posted a video to her Instagram speaking for the Parton and Owens families.

And then the whole world opened its mouth at once.

Miley Cyrus, her godaughter, wrote that losing her aunt Dolly was beyond what feels right to share and that their most sacred moments would stay behind the stage, beneath the glamour, and between our hearts.

She added something that stuck with people.

What I know is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong.

Paul McCartney, an actual Beatle, said her songwriting, her singing, and her philanthropy were unrivaled in country music.

Jane Fonda said Dolly was woven into all our lives forever.

Look at that list for a second.

A pop star, a beetle, a Hollywood legend, and every one of them is describing a Dolly they knew for 30 or 40 years.
